They only represent reductions in the rate of growth. Federal spending (and the deficit and national debt) continue to increase. The airline delays and other reductions in federal services have been implemented by the government as punishment to the masses in retaliation for their impudence in attempting to rein in spending.

Re: This is justice: Nathan Dunlap deserves to die

It's not enough to let his good buddies son loose to kill a state official. The one they named is no subsidy at all. Foreign tax credit simply prevents DOUBLE TAXATION. Without it the much needed foreign trade would not occur. I think the point being made in this piece is that no one has the ability to judge whether someone "deserves" to die. Death is something that humans do not understand, and we can only reliably decide whether we think we have taken acceptable measures to secure the law abiding populace. Saying he "deserves" to die is completely subjective, and when we do that we are brought to the same level as Dunlap himself. He arbitrarily decided that a group of people "deserved" death, as did Bin Laden, Tim McVeigh, and countless other people we despise. As a society, we should show our children that moral people do not kill other people unless it is absolutely necessary for our safety, even when we hate them.

2. I don't think life in prison sends a "loud and clear message" other than that if you kill a bunch of people you can kiss your freedom goodbye forever. I don't think a lifetime locked up in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day in federal prison really sends a message of being soft on killing witnesses.

3. Fallacious. A) Why do you think he will be able to earn his way out of solitary? Plenty of prisoners spend the rest of their lives locked up alone, even with perfect behavior. B) Even if he were released into gen pop, why do you think he's a danger? He doesn't look all that big and strong, and I'm sure there are many other prisoners and guards who could easily manhandle him.

4. Depends on what the needs of society are. I'd argue that we would be better off capturing and trying Bin Laden and all other enemies of the U.S. if possible, but times of war usually don't make that a legitimate possibility. In the case of Bin Laden, he was in a heavily armed compound and the assault team thought the entire place was probably wired with explosives. I could see how shooting would be the only viable option. Here, we have a man completely under control, no longer posing any threat to our population. Why don't we take the opportunity to send the message that our society has higher moral standards than our most evil members, rather than sinking to their level?

5. I am very sorry for your loss, and I hope you've at least healed somewhat since then. I think that the author's point here is that maybe reminding yourself of your own humanity and separating your moral compass from that of the murderer can be a way to heal.

6. That line made me laugh, very nice.

Re: Commute Nathan Dunlap’s death sentence, governor

1. He deserves to die.
2. Who knows if the death penalty would have been a deterrent to his original crimes, but commuting his sentence will send a loud and clear message that it's acceptable to kill witnesses to crimes. That is the main reason that he, as well as Ray and Owens, are on death row instead of life without parole.
3. He is in solitary confinement now, but if his sentence is commuted, he will earn his way back into general population. The only reason that he is not currently dangerous to corrections officers and other inmates is that he is in solitary confinement. It is guaranteed that executing him IS a deterrent to future crimes he will almost certainly commit when he is unleashed back to general population.
4. We have the right and the obligation to protect our society from monsters like him. You OK with killing Osama Bin Laden? Drone strikes? And Bin Laden didn't even have the luxury of years and countless dollars of victims' money being spent on his ridiculous appeals.
5. It is so easy to preach your platitudes of mercy when you have no skin in the game. Ask me how the last 19 1/2 years of my life have been thanks to the actions of this monster.
6. We kill dangerous animals without a second thought. I make no comparison between him and animals out of respect for animals.

Re: Candidates should address climate crisis

http://hack-game.in/hack-xu/
http://hack-game.in/ebank/
http://hack-game.in/bau-vat-cf...
http://hack-game.in/hack-cf/
http://hack-game.in/mua-sung-c...
http://hack-game.in/hack-xu-zi...

Re: Photo caption contest: Fresh Prince of Jersey Shore?

The "English" spoken on the Jersey shore so befuddles Prince Harry that he resorts to hand gestures to communicate.

Re: Photo caption contest: Fresh Prince of Jersey Shore?

Yup, Ryan Lochte's house is just up the block.
While House Republicans hold their 37th vote to repeal Obamacare today, ThinkProgress has tallied the current cost of those 37 votes and it comes out to $55 million.

Last year, CBS News calculated that the number of hours spent on 33 repeal votes — then roughly 80 hours, or two full work weeks — cost taxpayers an estimated $48 million. Since then, Republicans have held three more votes (another $4.5 million) and will add another $1.5 million with their latest.

And let’s not forget the only reason they’re wasting the time and money on today’s vote is because the freshmen demand it.

“We’ve got 17 new members that have not had the opportunity to vote on the President’s health care law,” Boehner said, referring to next week’s ACA repeal vote. “Frankly they’ve been asking for an opportunity to vote on it, and we’re going to give it to them.”

Re: Photo caption contest: Fresh Prince of Jersey Shore?

I live on that little island right over there, yes, that way.
